Office of the Provost Announces Faculty Rank and Status Changes for the 2024-2025 Academic Year

As the 2024-2025 academic year approaches, the Office of the Provost is pleased to announce significant rank and status changes for several esteemed faculty members. These changes, effective August 1, 2024, highlight the continued dedication and scholarly excellence that define the Morehouse College academic community.

Tenure Awards

Dr. Worth Hayes

  • Position: Associate Professor and Avalon Humanities and Social Sciences Endowed Chair
  • Department: Africana Studies and History

Dr. Hayes has demonstrated exceptional dedication to his field, significantly contributing to the Africana Studies and History Department. As the Avalon Humanities and Social Sciences Endowed Chair, his leadership and scholarship have set a high standard for academic excellence.

Dr. Marisela Martinez-Cola

  • Position: Assistant Professor (Promoted to Associate Professor)
  • Department: Sociology

Dr. Martinez-Cola's promotion to Associate Professor is a testament to her impactful research and teaching in the Sociology Department. Her innovative approaches and commitment to social justice issues have enriched the academic experience for students and colleagues alike.

Dr. Derrick Brooms

  • Position: Professor and Executive Director
  • Department: Black Men's Research Institute, Africana Studies and History

Dr. Brooms has been a transformative figure in the Africana Studies and History Department, particularly through his work with the Black Men's Research Institute. His promotion to Professor reflects his outstanding contributions to research, mentorship, and community engagement.
