Dr. Clarissa Myrick-Harris White, professor in the Department of Africana Studies and History, was featured on The Black Studies Podcast, a nationally recognized series hosted by scholar John Drabinski that examines the history, evolution, and future of the field.

The Black Studies Podcast brings together activists, scholars, culture workers, and political organizers across generations to explore the cultural and political meaning of Black Studies as an area of inquiry. Through these conversations, the podcast illuminates how Black Studies has functioned not only as an academic discipline, but as a critical method for understanding power, resistance, memory, and social transformation.

In her conversation with Drabinski, Dr. Myrick-Harris White reflects on the intellectual and political foundations of Black Studies, drawing from her extensive experience as a scholar, administrator, and institutional leader. At Morehouse, she leads the Movement, Memory, and Justice Project, an initiative that examines historical struggles for justice and their contemporary implications. She is also a co-founder of the Morehouse Black Men’s Research Institute, which centers the lived experiences, histories, and intellectual contributions of Black men through interdisciplinary research.

Dr. Myrick-Harris White’s leadership at Morehouse has been both deep and wide-ranging. She has previously served as Dean of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division, Associate Provost for Curricular and Pedagogical Initiatives, and most recently as Chair of the Humanities Division. Her work in these roles has helped shape curriculum, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and advance the College’s commitment to rigorous, socially engaged scholarship.

Beyond Morehouse, Dr. Myrick-Harris White is a leading voice in the field of Black Studies. She currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Black Scholar, one of the nation’s most influential journals dedicated to Black intellectual thought and political analysis. Her research and publications focus on the intersections of race, class, culture, and gender in the pursuit of social change, with particular attention to leadership during the Civil Rights and Black Power movements.
