Dr. Muhsinah Morris, Director of Metaverse Programs at Morehouse College and Professor of the Practice in the Professional and Continuing Studies Division, received the prestigious Women in Technology Woman of the Year Award. This award celebrates not only her contributions to technology and education but also her resilience, innovation, and determination to revolutionize learning experiences through the Metaverse.

Dr. Morris’s journey to this milestone was fueled by a powerful belief in the potential of immersive learning to transform education. As Director of Metaverse Programs, she introduced pioneering concepts at Morehouse College, turning the campus into a “Metaversity”—a virtual educational environment where students could engage in immersive learning experiences. Dr. Morris crafted a curriculum that brought students closer to real-world applications, offering them an educational lens to view technology, interact within it, and use it as a tool for their futures.

This vision took root in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Dr. Morris faced the difficult reality of students struggling with remote learning. Rather than view the challenge as a limitation, she saw an opportunity to innovate. “Choosing joy in every circumstance, including the pandemic, allowed me to create a safe space for students to explore learning differently—futuristically yet realistically—through the lens of the Metaverse,” Dr. Morris reflects.

Under Dr. Morris’s leadership, Morehouse’s Metaversity quickly gained recognition as a model for higher education institutions worldwide. From virtual labs to digital classrooms, the Metaverse became a dynamic environment where students could engage deeply with content and concepts, expanding their horizons beyond the traditional classroom. Her work impacted over 120 colleges and universities, which have since followed Morehouse’s lead, developing their own Metaversity programs inspired by Dr. Morris’s innovative curriculum. Morehouse became, in Dr. Morris’s words, “the blueprint for many others.”

This dedication resonated beyond the Morehouse campus, influencing educators and institutions nationwide to consider how they, too, could leverage the Metaverse to enhance learning outcomes. Her Metaversity has inspired a transformation in academic institutions’ approach to digital instruction, pushing the boundaries of what virtual education can achieve.

Receiving the Women in Technology Woman of the Year Award stands as a testament to Dr. Morris’s impact on education and technology. The award celebrates not only her achievements but also the revolutionary potential of the Metaverse in academic settings. Her work demonstrates that the future of learning can be immersive, inclusive, and inspiring.

Dr. Morris’s work in the Metaverse and her recognition as Woman of the Year are only the beginning. With her sights set on expanding and refining Metaverse education, she aims to deepen its impact on more students, helping them to learn and grow in environments that inspire creativity and critical thinking. As an innovator, leader, and advocate, Dr. Muhsinah Morris is shaping the future of education—one immersive experience at a time.
