Elijah Walker, a double major in English and Spanish from Las Vegas, Nevada, has spent his time at Morehouse College building bridges—between cultures, between people, and between the classroom and the world. Now, as Co-Valedictorian of the Class of 2025, Walker represents the very best of what it means to be a global Morehouse Man.

A legacy student following in the footsteps of his father, uncles, and brother, Walker has shaped his academic journey with purpose, intention, and a deep desire to connect. His passion for global learning led him to four international programs: the Morehouse Pan-African Global Experience (MPAGE) in Colombia and Belize, the “Morehouse in Oaxaca” summer study abroad program in México, a cultural immersion program in Germany through the Transatlantic Outreach Program, and Spanish-language study at Middlebury Language Schools.

The MPAGE trips broadened my perspective in ways I had never imagined,” Walker reflects. “They brought my learning outside of the classroom and helped me build relationships that last to this day.”

On campus, Walker’s leadership extended beyond travel. He served as Financial Secretary for the Morehouse Writing and Thinking Society, a student representative on the English Department’s faculty hiring committee, and a dedicated mentor through Counseling Humans in Life Lessons (C.H.I.L.L.). His commitment to academic excellence earned him the Highest Ranking Scholar Award four times, selection as a M. Mitchell Emerging Scholars Lecturer, and induction into Phi Beta Kappa.

Beyond campus, Walker's curiosity and discipline propelled him into prestigious internships and fellowships, including work with Mosaic Media Group, the AfroLatinidades Institute at UC Santa Barbara, and the National Education Equity Lab. His excellence in language study was recognized when he was chosen to deliver the graduation speech at Universidad Anáhuac in México and was named a top scholar at Middlebury.

But his Morehouse journey was not without challenge. “I had to learn how to find balance,” he says. “I used to hyperfocus on academics and neglect the people around me. Morehouse taught me the value of community and the importance of my chosen family.”

For Walker, the essence of Morehouse is rooted in connection. “The most fulfilling part of my experience is that I have been gifted the opportunity to share with and learn from so many different kinds of men. Morehouse introduced me to a brotherhood that is intellectually diverse, creatively bold, and spiritually grounded.”

As he looks ahead, Walker has been named a 2025 Fellow with the Woodruff, Whitehead, and Evans Foundations, where he will deepen his understanding of philanthropy and public service. Law school is next on his horizon, as he prepares for a career where he can shape policy and advocate for equity on a broader scale.

To Walker, a “Morehouse Man” is not just a title—it’s a responsibility. “It means having compassion and empathy. It means looking out for others, encouraging your brothers, and living by the Ubuntu phrase, I am because we are.’

He credits his success to the people who have stood by him. “My family—both blood and chosen—have been my foundation. We uplift each other, and that consistent support has carried me through.”

Walker’s advice to those considering Morehouse is simple but powerful: Morehouse is the type of place where you get out what you put in. So, put in the effort. Attend lectures. Join clubs. Study abroad. Meet people. Push your creativity. Take ownership. You’ll be glad you did.”

As Elijah Walker prepares to graduate, he leaves behind a legacy of intellectual rigor, global engagement, and brotherly love—a legacy that will continue to shape Morehouse College for years to come.
