Welcome to our 2025 Spotlights! We have REUNITED and welcome the classes of 2024 and 2025 to our hallowed grounds in person for the first time. The men of Morehouse showcased in this series are a selection [from the many] students who exemplify the quintessential Morehouse student: enterprising, audacious, inquisitive, tenacious, creative, and unapologetic. The College is shining a light from its hilltop on the scholars who will soon be carrying the torch themselves.
When Thomas Bittings Jr. was searching for schools to attend, the atmosphere of Morehouse College made the 18-year-old, Chicago native feel like this was a place where he could thrive not only as a student but also as a person.
Pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, Bittings says invention is something he has a real knack for. He won the Network for Teaching and Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Midwest regional contest for his automated showerhead invention called “Goldilocks System,” which heats up to a pre-selected temperature. He told a local paper in his McKinley Park neighborhood that he named was chosen because the showerhead ensures the water temperature is “just right.”
Bittings plans to continue studying entrepreneurship at Morehouse. He hopes the lessons he learns and connections he builds will pave the way for a bright future.
“Working through and winning this competition taught me that I could use my ideas that I’ve been writing down ever since I was 12 and turn them into my actual career,” Bittings said. “It also taught me that no matter where a person comes from or looks like anyone can make it if they work hard enough.”
Welcome to The House, Thomas!
