Today, Morehouse College received an indirect threat concerning a suspicious package placed on campus which might have contained explosive wiring. Morehouse College Police Department issued a shelter-in-place alert, and then was assisted by the Atlanta Police Department in conducting a search of the campus. No suspicious package was found, and the shelter-in-place order was subsequently lifted. The safety of the Morehouse family remains our top priority, and we remind every student and employee to remain on high alert as we navigate through this challenging time .
Recent threats against HBCUs are proof that we are doing something right. Our ability to use educational excellence to empower talented students means that the status quo will necessarily be disrupted as they become leaders in every field. Though it may make some uncomfortable, we will nevertheless proceed undaunted in our work to create transformative agents of change. No threat has ever, or will ever, stop us from turning dreams into triumph.
Students, employees, and visitors on campus have been advised to continue their normal routine but to exercise extreme caution and awareness and to contact campus police if they encounter any suspicious packaging, persons, or comments. We thank everyone who has expressed concern for the College and continues to support our mission.
