Morehouse College students, faculty, and staff have a new on-campus option to pick up essentials with the opening of P.O.D. Market in the Thomas Kilgore Student Center this week.
The P.O.D. (Provisions on Demand) Market is located in what had been the Center’s South Lounge. On Monday, Aug. 6, President David A. Thomas and SGA President Quintin Paschall cut the ribbon to officially open the convenience store.
The new project was inspired by a meeting between Thomas and students who said that they needed a convenience store on campus that had extended hours. Thomas worked with the Division of Student Affairs, the Morehouse College Student Government Association and the campus’ food service vendor, Aramark, to develop the College’s first official convenience store. It will open between 8 a.m. and 2 a.m. during the academic year.
“This is an example of the College’s continued efforts to be truly customer-friendly and provide a service that our students said they really wanted,” Thomas said.
“For years students had to walk off campus often late at night to purchase things from local convenience stores in the area,” said Said Sewell ’92, vice president for the Division of Student Development. “Now, since President Thomas’ arrival and because of his commitment to being student-focused we have our store on campus.”
