The Morehouse College Cross Country Team recently won its third straight victory at the 2018 SIAC Cross Country Championships. The win was the Maroon Tigers' 23rd championship in 25 years.
Head coachWillie Hill was named the 2018 SIAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
The championship was decided in a tie-breaker after the Maroon Tigers and Benedict College finished with 48 points each. Morehouse won the tie-breaker when senior Trey Simons, Morehouse's fifth runner, finished ahead of Benedict's runner.
Simons was Morehouse's top finisher with a second place finish and a time of 25:40.08, while junior Collins Kiplimo joined his teammate in the top-10 as he crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 27:02.12.
Among those finishing in the top-20 were sophomore Randy Carter Jr., who finished in eleventh place (28:09.02), freshman Nicholas Kipsang, who came in fourteenth place (28:56.25), and junior Qaseem Wajd, who crossed the line in sixteenth place (29:13.74).
Benedict placed second overall in the championship. Finishing in third was Central State, followed by Spring Hill, Albany State, Kentucky State, Tuskegee, Fort Valley State, Paine, Lane, LeMoyne-Owen, Clark Atlanta, and Miles.
Morehouse will now head to the NCAA DII Cross Country South Regional on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Lakeland, Fla.
