Jeremy Hall ’26 is turning personal experience into purpose with the release of his new book, The HBCU Hustle: Making Moves in College, which has sold more than 3,500 copies worldwide. The book is both a memoir and a motivational guide, offering students an honest look at the challenges of college life and the resilience required to navigate it, especially for those from underrepresented communities.

In The HBCU Hustle, Hall reflects on the pivotal decisions that shaped his journey to Morehouse. Originally committed to play Division I basketball at the University of Illinois Springfield, Hall made the difficult choice to step away from that opportunity and take a leap of faith by enrolling at Morehouse instead. The decision was not without sacrifice. His first year at the College was marked by significant financial challenges, including taking out loans to afford his initial semester, experiences familiar to many college students.

“Like many students, I took out loans to afford my first semester,” Hall shares. “Looking back, those tough moments shaped my purpose and resilience. Today, I use those experiences to inspire others, showing what’s possible when you take risks, believe in your journey, and keep pushing forward.”

Those early struggles became foundational to Hall’s growth, reinforcing lessons in perseverance, faith, and self-belief. At Morehouse, he found not only academic rigor but also a community that helped refine his sense of purpose. That transformation is at the heart of The HBCU Hustle, where Hall blends personal storytelling with practical encouragement for students navigating similar crossroads.

Drawing heavily from his own life, Hall wrote the book with students from Chicago and comparable communities in mind, young people who often face systemic barriers but carry immense potential. Through candid reflections, he encourages readers to persevere through obstacles, take calculated risks, and remain committed to their goals, even when the path forward feels uncertain.

“I hope this journey shines a light for students from Chicago and similar communities to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles,” Hall says. “Thanks so much for your time and for all you do to tell the Morehouse story. I’m looking forward to staying connected.”

With thousands of copies sold and a growing audience of readers, Hall is using his voice to uplift others, embodying the Morehouse mission of developing leaders committed to service, resilience, and positive change. Learn more here.
