On Tuesday, February 13th, Landon Dais '03, has won the seat for the 77th Assembly District in the Bronx in the special election to represent the area in the New York State Assembly.
According to the Associated Press, with approximately 94% of the expected vote tallied as of 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dais had 78.1% of the vote, while Republican candidate Norman McGill had 21.9% of the vote.
The district covers the neighborhoods of Claremont, Concourse, Highbridge, Mount Eden and Morris Heights.
Dais, an attorney who is originally from Harlem, previously made an unsuccessful bid to unseat then-City Councilmember Inez Dickens.
He's originally from Harlem, but his wife is from the Bronx and they've raised their children in the district. He was also endorsed by the Bronx County Democratic Party.
Dais is the first Morehouse Man who has been elected to the New York State Assembly, now joining Major Owens '56 was elected to the New York State Senate in 1975 as Morehouse Men who have represented communities on the state level in New York.
