Dear Morehouse,

It is a true honor to greet you at the start of a new academic year. Over the past month, I have had the privilege of meeting many of you, listening to your reflections, and feeling the warmth of your welcome. Your messages of encouragement and the collegial spirit you have extended have already affirmed for me what I have long known: that Morehouse is powered by extraordinary people, united in purpose, and deeply committed to shaping consequential men.

This past week, we welcomed the Class of 2029 into the brotherhood with a spectacular New Student Orientation. Well done to Student Services, King Chapel, and all staff members, as well as the phenomenal NSO student leaders, who collectively produced a monumental experience for the incoming students and their families. Witnessing their first steps into this sacred tradition reminded me of the power and promise that lives within Morehouse. It is just one example of how our shared responsibility, rooted in integrity, collaboration, compassion, and resilience, will preserve and propel Morehouse as “a house united.”

To our students: As you step into this new academic year, your most important task is to focus on becoming the very best version of yourself, day by day. Prepare for your profession or next stage of advanced education, while guided by values and character, eager to serve, and ready to lead. You are here because you have already demonstrated significant potential, but it is Morehouse’s mission to drive you towards greatness.  Lean into the challenge and push the boundaries of excellence beyond even your own expectations.

To our faculty: I begin this academic year with profound respect for the rigor of your scholarship, the innovation in your teaching, and the dedication you bring to foster our students’ growth. Together, we share a commitment to ensure that every Morehouse student experiences the transformative education that only this institution can provide. My desire is that we will move forward collaboratively, with open dialogue and a shared vision, to strengthen our academic distinction and ensure student success.

To our staff: Thank you for your steadfast dedication and hard work throughout the year. Many staff remain active over the summer, keeping the College operational and closing out the year while preparing for the upcoming semester. You are incredibly valued, and I appreciate all the work you've done and continue to do in service to our students, faculty, alumni, and the Morehouse mission as a whole.

As I begin my presidency, I look forward to walking this journey with each of you, listening to your insights, learning from your aspirations, and working together to build a sustainable and bold future for Morehouse College.

I look forward to seeing you on campus!

Et Facta Est Lux,
