The 2025–26 athletic year marked one of the strongest and most accomplished seasons in modern Morehouse athletics history. Fueled by championship performances across cross country, track and field, and men’s basketball, alongside breakthrough campaigns in baseball and golf, the Maroon Tigers established a new standard of competitive excellence across the department.
At the center of the year was a historic achievement by Morehouse’s cross country and track and field programs. The Maroon Tigers captured the SIAC Men’s Cross Country Championship for the fourth consecutive season, scoring 26 points and continuing the program’s conference dominance. Brian Kemei earned the individual conference title and was named SIAC Runner of the Year for the third straight season, while legendary head coach Willie Hill received SIAC Coach of the Year honors.
The success continued indoors as Morehouse repeated as SIAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field champions with 149 points. Victor Chebii was named SIAC Men’s Track Performer of the Year, and Hill added another Coach of the Year recognition to his decorated career.
The outdoor season completed what became the defining accomplishment of the athletic year. Morehouse won the SIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship with 176 points, securing the program’s first-ever SIAC “track triple crown” by sweeping cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track championships in the same academic year. The outdoor title also marked the 51st SIAC championship of Willie Hill’s extraordinary coaching career.
Throughout the year, the Maroon Tigers produced standout performances across nearly every event group. Athletes including Michael Simmons Jr., Owynn Brown, Dennis Kibet, Keonte Knight, Blake Pollock, Logan McCormick, Sidney Morris, Elijah Rose, Khalil Johnson, and Trawick Warren delivered major scoring performances and All-SIAC honors. Morehouse also earned national track and field representation, with Simmons qualifying for nationals in the 400 meters, qualifying relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400, and McCormick earning a national berth in the high jump.
Men’s basketball also authored a championship season under first-year head coach Larry Dixon. The Maroon Tigers captured the SIAC East Division title, entered the conference tournament as the East’s No. 1 seed, and defeated Tuskegee 66–56 to win the SIAC Men’s Basketball Tournament championship. The title marked Morehouse’s seventh SIAC Tournament championship, its first since 2003, and secured the program’s first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance since 2018.
Dixon’s debut season proved historic in its own right. Morehouse finished with 22 victories, the most wins ever by a Morehouse head coach in his first season, while Dixon earned HBCU All-Stars Clarence “Big House” Gaines Division II Co-National Coach of the Year honors.
Several Maroon Tigers earned major postseason recognition during the basketball season. Josiah Lawson was named SIAC Tournament MVP, while Brandon Peters and JerMontae Hill earned All-Tournament honors. Hill also collected Third Team All-SIAC recognition and was named HBCU All-Stars Division II Co-National Player of the Year. Sincere Moore earned Second Team All-SIAC honors, and Jared White was selected to the SIAC All-Freshman Team.
Baseball delivered one of the most significant breakthrough seasons in recent program history. Under SIAC Coach of the Year Antonio Grissom, the Maroon Tigers finished 25–21, setting a program record for wins while advancing to the final day of the SIAC Tournament for the first time since 1994.
The season featured several major individual honors. Tripp Braswell was named SIAC Freshman of the Year, while Elijah Pinckney earned the SIAC Elite 16 Award and Second Team All-SIAC recognition at shortstop. Elijah James, Robert Robinson Jr., and Cam Simmons also earned all-conference honors. Robinson delivered one of the most dominant tournament performances in program history, batting .588 with three home runs and a 1.858 OPS during the SIAC Tournament.
Morehouse football also showed significant momentum during the 2025–26 campaign. The Maroon Tigers earned their first Homecoming victory since 2019 and posted their first three-game winning streak since 2021. Maurice Veney earned First Team All-SIAC honors at tight end and D2CCA Second Team All-Super Region 2 recognition. Additional weekly honors went to Miles Scott and Stephen Rowser following Morehouse’s win over Tuskegee.
The golf program also continued its upward trajectory with one of the strongest seasons in recent memory. Morehouse finished second at the Savannah State Tigers Spring Invitational, where J.D. Cunningham captured the individual title in a playoff and Tyler Stackhouse tied for first before the playoff round. The Maroon Tigers later finished third at the SIAC Championship and earned a berth to the PGA Works Collegiate Championship, ultimately finishing as the top HBCU program in the Division II bracket.
