The Maroon Tiger Wins Emmy at the 2026 Southeast Regional Student Production Awards

Several students from The Maroon Tiger, Morehouse College’s longstanding student news organization, were recognized at the 2026 Southeast Regional Student Production Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.The team earned an Emmy win and additional nominations in interview and discussion categories, as well as in the promotional video category.

State of the House: An Inside Look With Dr. F. DuBois Bowman won the Emmy in the interview and discussion category, earning praise for its depth, focus, and clarity. The production was directed by Geondre Baldwin ’26, hosted by Joshua Bass ’27, and produced by Aaron Fields ’28, with Darian Crisp ’27 serving as Director of Photography. Seth Beamer ’27 worked as 1st Assistant Director, while Niles Garrison ’26, Joshua Bryant ’26, and Fredrell Green ’27 contributed as Production Assistants. Behind the scenes contributions were made by Isaiah Turman ’28 and Joshua Byrom ’29.The piece delivers a thoughtful, well-paced conversation shaped by strong editorial instincts and a clear sense of direction. It’s the kind of storytelling that not only informs but also draws viewers into the conversation.

This momentum extended beyond the Emmy win. In the same category, MT Spotlight: Fly Guy DC Exclusive Interview earned a nomination, with contributions from Baldwin, Bass, Garrison, and Beamer. The project captured the energy and perspective of its subject in a way that feels natural, while showing the students’ ability to create work that is both engaging and culturally relevant. Finally, in the promotional video category, Family Affair, created by Baldwin, Crisp, Garrison, and Beamer, also picked up a nomination, adding to a growing body of work that reflects both range and a clear creative point of view.

These accomplishments are rooted in a culture that values mentorship alongside talent. Guidance from advisor Emani Saucier, director of the Morehouse Multimedia Center and Ernie Suggs, reporter at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, was instrumental in developing these projects. Their support helped shape the work from initial concepts to award-winning productions. The investment in the students’ growth is evident in every frame and edit.

These honors reflect the skill, professionalism, and creative discipline developed within Morehouse's journalism and media programs, helping a new generation sharpen its voice for a changing industry.
