Congratulations to students David Totty '25 and Jeffery Jenkins '25 for their outstanding achievements at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS)!

David Totty, a junior biology major, demonstrated his dedication to advancing cardiovascular health in Black adults through his presentation on "Identifying Mechanisms Underlying Cardiovascular Health in Black Adults: Investigating the Role of miR-122-5p on Glutamine Production through Regulation of Glutamine Synthetase Expression."

This groundbreaking work was carried out in the Searles Lab under the leadership of Dr. Charles D. Searles, Jr., an esteemed associate professor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. David Totty's participation was made possible by the generous support from the Morehouse Sponsored Programs, Research & Undergraduate Student Training (SPRUST) office, and ABRCMS as a travel awardee recipient.

Jeffery Jenkins, a junior biology major, is equally commendable. His presentation on "Environmental Equity and Social Justice: Residential Security Maps and Water Quality in Atlanta, GA (USA)" reflects his commitment to addressing critical issues in environmental justice.

Jeffery conducted this impactful research at the Vereen Research Institute (VRI) under the guidance of Dr. Ethell Vereen, Jr., an esteemed assistant professor of biology at Morehouse College. Jeffery Jenkins is an active scholar in the Morehouse McNair Scholars Program and the Environmental Justice and Sustainability Program. For his participation in ABRCMS, Jeffery received support from the Morehouse SPRUST office and the Office of Science Training.

David Totty and Jeffery Jenkins have showcased exceptional dedication and talent. Their accomplishments are a testament to the academic excellence fostered at Morehouse College. Congratulations on your well-deserved recognition, and we look forward to witnessing your continued success in biomedical research!
