Leading into Morehouse College’s 159th Founders Week and the inauguration of its 13th president, Dr. F. DuBois Bowman '92, sat down with 11Alive News anchor and Emmy-nominated journalist Jonathan Martin for a wide-ranging conversation about leadership, legacy, and the future of the College.
In the interview, President Bowman reflected on the months leading up to his inauguration, during which he hosted listening sessions with students, faculty, and staff to understand the College community’s priorities. A proud Morehouse alumnus, Bowman brings a personal connection to the role: one of his sons currently attends the College, while another recently graduated, continuing a family legacy at Morehouse.
President Bowman shared that his top priorities include strengthening the College’s academic core, enhancing the student experience for the roughly 2,600 men on campus, and expanding the College’s physical footprint. That vision is already taking shape through an ongoing campus construction project: a new five-story residence hall that will add 324 beds and is scheduled for student move-in in fall 2026.He also emphasized the importance of alumni engagement and giving, particularly for historically Black colleges and universities.
In recent months, President Bowman has visited cities with large Morehouse alumni populations, such as Houston and Los Angeles, to reconnect with graduates and forge lasting partnerships. The conversation provided a preview of the excitement and momentum building at Morehouse ahead of Founders Week and the formal inauguration ceremony. President Bowman’s reflections during the interview reaffirmed his commitment to listening, building community, and leading the College into a new era of academic excellence, alumni engagement, and student opportunity.
