From the heart of Houston to the historic campus of Morehouse College, Lance Carter has carved out a college journey defined by resilience, leadership, and global ambition. He is a Communication Studies major with a minor in Marketing.
During his time at Morehouse, Lance immersed himself in opportunities that stretched far beyond the classroom. He served as a Student Career Ambassador, a LYTEhouse peer mentor, and an Office of International Education (OIE) ambassador. His involvement reflected his passion for both service and scholarship, and his curiosity took him across continents—studying abroad in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as well as in Kyoto and Hiroshima, Japan.
Lance’s commitment to excellence did not go unnoticed. He earned induction into the Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, graduated cum laude, and was a featured Candle in the Dark scholar-speaker, one of Morehouse’s highest student honors.
But Lance’s path was not without obstacles. One of his most difficult moments came when he was dropped from his classes due to financial hardship.
“I didn’t know if I’d be able to finish college,” he recalls. “But I refused to give up. I raised my GPA, got more involved on campus, and eventually earned the scholarship that allowed me to complete my degree.”
That experience, while difficult, became a turning point—shaping his perspective and his purpose.
After graduation, Lance plans to pursue a career in global and commercial brand marketing with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), where he hopes to fuse strategy and storytelling to connect people across cultures.
“Being a Morehouse Man means standing on purpose,” Lance says. “It means knowing your worth, embracing your legacy, and using your platform to uplift others.”
He attributes his success to his faith in God, a strong support system of mentors, and his own perseverance.
“I’m deeply grateful to professors and mentors like Dr. Stewart, Dr. Snowden, and Ms. Tamara, who poured into me when I needed it most.”
As he reflects on his transformative time at Morehouse, Lance has one message for future Men of Morehouse:
“Come ready to grow. Morehouse won’t just give you an education—it will give you a mission. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, take risks, and step into leadership. Your time here will shape your future, but only if you allow yourself to be fully present in it.”
Lance Carter leaves Morehouse not only as a scholar and global citizen but as a man of intention, ready to lead with purpose, represent his legacy with pride, and make an impact far beyond the gates of the College.
