President Bowman Connects with National Alumni Association in Martha’s Vineyard
August 29, 2025Written by: Morehouse College
President F. DuBois Bowman '92 recently spent time in Martha’s Vineyard alongside Morehouse alumni, families, and friends of the College during the 8th Annual House on the Vineyard, a gathering for fostering alumni connection and shared purpose. Hosted by the Greater Boston Morehouse College Alumni Association (GBMCAA), the week offered space for meaningful conversations, renewed relationships, and a collective recommitment to Morehouse College.

House on the Vineyard brought together generations of Morehouse Men and their families for a week rooted in community, service, and celebration. Proceeds from the experience directly supported Morehouse College and GBMCAA’s local programming and scholarship funds. What continues to set House on the Vineyard apart is its focus on intentional connection, creating moments where alumni can reflect on their journeys while investing in the future of the institution that shaped them. The week began with a community service project at the Thrift Shop in Vineyard Haven, where alumni rolled up their sleeves to support an organization dedicated to meeting the needs of individuals and families across the Vineyard. The work served as a reminder that service remains at the heart of the Morehouse tradition, regardless of location.
Another standout moment of the weekend was the Legacy of Light Lux Awards, held at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. The ceremony honored business leader Benaree “Bennie” Wiley and the Reverend Dr. Otis Moss III ’92 for their lasting leadership and service. The celebration continued with the Legacy of Light Concert, presented in partnership with the African American Film Festival, where Angie Stone, Fonzworth Bentley ’92, PJ Morton ’03, and the Woo Factor Band took the stage.
Family and fellowship were central to the weekend’s atmosphere, especially during the Family Fun Beach Party at the Inkwell. DJ Tron ’94 and other familiar DJs provided the soundtrack as alumni and families gathered at the historic beach, long recognized as an important cultural gathering place for the Black community.
Throughout the visit, President Bowman spent time with members of the Morehouse College National Alumni Association, listening to their perspectives, exchanging ideas, and reaffirming the vital role alumni leadership plays in shaping the College’s future. House on the Vineyard made clear that the Morehouse spirit is not confined to campus. It is sustained through relationships, service, and the collective commitment of alumni who continue to advance Morehouse’s impact around the world.
