This year’s theme, “Ecology is Everywhere,” mirrors the foundation of Dr. Vereen’s scholarship—revealing how ecological principles shape not only forests and wetlands but also classrooms, communities, and the microbial life within our city watersheds.

Through his research and teaching, Dr. Vereen challenges students to see the deep interconnections between natural systems and human life. His work, from mapping microbial patterns in urban waterways to designing transformative field-based learning, invites a broader conversation about how ecology underpins the health of both ecosystems and societies.

Attendees of #ESA2025 are encouraged to connect with Dr. Vereen to share ideas, build collaborative networks, and explore the many places ecology calls home.
