Curwood’s biography examines the life and legacy of Shirley Chisholm, the groundbreaking congresswoman, presidential candidate, and political trailblazer whose work continues to inspire movements for racial and gender justice. In her review, Dr. Teague engages with Curwood’s interpretation of Chisholm’s career, offering critical insights that situate Chisholm within the broader history of Black feminist politics and American democracy.

Publication in the American Historical Review is a notable achievement, as the journal is widely recognized for shaping scholarly debates across historical disciplines. Dr. Teague’s contribution underscores her expertise in Africana studies, women’s history, and political thought, while also amplifying the importance of studying leaders like Chisholm whose work transformed U.S. political life.
