Dr. Janira Teague Publishes Review in the American Historical Review

Dr. Janira Teague, Assistant Professor in the Africana Studies and History Department, recently contributed a book review to one of the field’s most prestigious journals. On September 12, 2025, her review of Anastacia C. Curwood’s Shirley Chisholm: Champion of Black Feminist Power Politics was published in the American Historical Review.
Curwood’s biography examines the life and legacy of Shirley Chisholm, the groundbreaking congresswoman, presidential candidate, and political trailblazer whose work continues to inspire movements for racial and gender justice. In her review, Dr. Teague engages with Curwood’s interpretation of Chisholm’s career, offering critical insights that situate Chisholm within the broader history of Black feminist politics and American democracy.
