    Illya Davis Delivers Keynote at Auburn Avenue Research Library

    Professor Illya Davis recently served as the opening keynote speaker for this year’s conference centered on the global Black experience. The multi-day gathering convened scholars, cultural leaders, and community members to examine the past, present, and future of the African diaspora, and it began with a strong Morehouse presence.

    The conference officially launched at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History, where attendees gathered for an evening of reflection and insight. At 6:30 p.m., Illya Davis, professor of Philosophy, Director of Freshmen & Seniors’ Academic Success, and Director of the Accelerated Academic Program/Pre-Freshmen Summer Program delivered the keynote lecture titled “The Importance of HBCUs in Today’s World.

    In his address, Professor Davis explored the foundational role that Historically Black Colleges and Universities continue to play in cultivating leaders, thinkers, and agents of change. Drawing on Morehouse’s rich legacy and its enduring mission, he underscored how HBCUs like Morehouse equip students with not only academic excellence but also a deep sense of identity, responsibility, and purpose.

    His lecture resonated strongly with attendees, offering a compelling reminder of the transformative impact of Black educational institutions within the broader landscape of higher education. The evening set a powerful tone for the conference, emphasizing the continued relevance and necessity of HBCUs in preparing the next generation to meet today’s challenges.

    Morehouse College celebrates Professor Davis’s leadership and his ongoing commitment to championing the value of HBCUs.
