Important Message About Threat to Spelman College

    February 8, 2022

    Dear Morehouse community:

We are aware of a violent threat made against our neighbor Spelman College this morning. Morehouse has not received a threat at this time and will continue to operate as scheduled. We are, however, actively engaged with campus, state, and federal law enforcement to assess risk and ensure the safety of our campus community. Please exercise increased caution and vigilance as you move about campus. I also encourage you to do everything you can to show your support for our Spelman sisters.

The recent threats against historically Black colleges and universities nationally are designed to disrupt our educational mission and our global impact. Morehouse and other HBCUs have always stood strong in the face of efforts to undermine the social change we bring about. We will not be distracted from our mission. The work in which we are engaged is too essential.

It is critical that you heighten your sense of awareness and pay special attention to anything that may be suspicious. If you see something out of the ordinary, contact Morehouse College Campus Police at (404) 215-2666.

Let’s continue with our important work.

    Sincerely,

    David A. Thomas, Ph.D.

    President, Morehouse College
