Welcome to our 2025 Spotlights! We have REUNITED and welcome the classes of 2024 and 2025 to our hallowed grounds in person for the first time. The men of Morehouse showcased in this series are a selection [from the many] students who exemplify the quintessential Morehouse student: enterprising, audacious, inquisitive, tenacious, creative, and unapologetic. The College is shining a light from its hilltop on the scholars who will soon be carrying the torch themselves.
As the grandson of famed Georgetown University basketball coach John Thompson, Washington D.C. native Dylan Thompson, 19, had all eyes on him whenever he hit the court. Thompson knows he has big shoes to fill and plans to continue the legacy of excellence that runs through his family.
At Morehouse, Thompson wants his college experience to be filled with fun, exploration, and success in the classroom as he pursues a bachelor’s degree in business administration focusing on finance.
“My father and grandfather were very adamant about me attending an HBCU,” he said. “They felt that it would be a great place for me to flourish and further my education. The tradition of producing successful Black men is what convinced me to come to Morehouse.”
As a student at Woodrow Wilson High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society. Along with basketball, his extracurricular activities have prepared him to be a positive influence on campus when he arrives in the fall.
“The first step to being a leader is understanding the purpose in everything that you do,” he said. “Once you understand that, it’s easy to set a good example for your peers to follow.”
He said his grandfather’s lessons will carry him as he transitions to college.
“Watching the way that he impacted the lives of so many people has always inspired me,” he said. “One major thing that he talked to me about was that ‘the key to life is the ability to adjust’ and that you have to be able to fight through adversity.”
