MVPS: Marcus Beason, ’25, Legacy Student Aiming to Produce a Feeling Without Words in the House of Funk Band

Welcome to our 2025 Spotlights! We have REUNITED and welcome the classes of 2024 and 2025 to our hallowed grounds in person for the first time. The men of Morehouse showcased in this series are a selection [from the many] students who exemplify the quintessential Morehouse student: enterprising, audacious, inquisitive, tenacious, creative, and unapologetic. The College is shining a light from its hilltop on the scholars who will soon be carrying the torch themselves.

Since eighth grade, Marcus Beason knew he would be attending Morehouse College. His older brother Malcolm, a 2019 alumnus, made it a point to ensure that Beason would follow in his footsteps.

“As much as I used to deny him being an influence towards my decision, he played a big role,” Benson said. With a host of Morehouse brothers who went before him, Beason is poised to expand his family at Morehouse and create his own identity on campus, starting with joining the “House of Funk” marching band as a trumpet player through which he loves having the ability to “produce a feeling without words.”

Beason has taken the initiative to begin networking before stepping onto campus. As an engineering student, he’s sought out advice from Morehouse alumni regarding career choices, adjusting to living on campus, as well as developing skills through side businesses.

“I’m taking full advantage of the advice I’ve received…College is the time where one makes decisions independently, whether for their benefit or detriment. With the tools that were given to me, I want to be able to make the right decisions mentally, physically, spiritually, academically, and emotionally. I believe Morehouse has the perfect environment to guide me on a path of success in every kind of way. This is the time I begin to reap what I sow.”

    Welcome to The House, Marcus!
