Morehouse College Names Alumnus Rev. Dr. Jason R. Curry ’92 as the New Dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel

Morehouse College announces the appointment of The Rev. Dr. Jason R. Curry ’92 as the second dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel following a national search. Dr. Curry will assume the role June 15, 2026, succeeding the founding dean of the Chapel, The Rev. Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., who will retire this summer after 47 years of service to the College. 
A nationally respected pastor, educator and higher education administrator, Dr. Curry currently serves as dean of Fisk Memorial Chapel at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., where he is also senior assistant vice president for academic affairs, assistant professor of religion, and director of religious life. He previously served as senior pastor of St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg, KY. At Fisk, he founded and advisesthe Fisk Memorial Chapel Assistants and the Leaders of the Interfaith Fellow Team.

Dr. Curry brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience in higher education. During his tenure at Fisk, he served on the president’s cabinet, senior leadership team, and provost’s council. He has helped secure more than $5 million in grants and fundraising support and has led initiatives supporting graduate school pipelines to institutions including Yale University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Vanderbilt University, and Harvard University. He also played a key role in data-driven enrollment management strategies that contributed to sustained increases in enrollment and tuition revenue at Fisk University.
For more than 21 years, Dr. Curry has led Fisk Memorial Chapel, advancing its longstanding tradition of serving the spiritual, intellectual, and social needs of the university and broader Nashville communities while fostering interfaith dialogue and engagement.
“I accepted my call to preach the gospel in the Chapel while serving as a chapel assistant under the visionary leadership of Dean Carter,” Dr. Curry said. “To return to Morehouse as dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel is the honor of a lifetime, and I am committed to continuing the Chapel’s enduring legacy at the intersection of scholarship, faith, justice, and leadership while shaping men dedicated to advancing Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community.”
Before becoming dean at Fisk Memorial Chapel, Dr. Curry served in several senior leadership roles at Fisk University, including special assistant to the president and associate vice president for institutional effectiveness and accreditation. He also held leadership roles in institutional research at Fisk University and Kentucky State University. Dr. Curry earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and religion from Morehouse College, a Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School, and an Executive MBA and Ph.D. in religion and personality from Vanderbilt University.
A proud Morehouse alumnus and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Dr. Curry has remained deeply connected to his alma mater and the Atlanta University Center community. He and his wife Angela, a graduate of Spelman College, are the parents of three children, who also graduated from Morehouse and Spelman.
