Sidney Barthelemy II ’97 Wins Special Runoff Election to Represent Select New Orleans Districts in Louisiana Legislature

    March 17, 2026

Sidney Barthelemy II '97 won a special runoff election Saturday to represent parts of New Orleans in the Louisiana Legislature.

Barthelemy won the State Senate District 3 race with 64% of the vote, defeating attorney Kenn Barnes. Barthelemy will take over the Senate District 3 seat previously held by Joseph Bouie, who stepped down after becoming chancellor of Southern University. The district includes Gentilly, New Orleans East, downriver neighborhoods and parts of St. Bernard Parish.

For more than 20 years, he has led major construction and redevelopment projects that strengthen public safety, expand educational opportunity, and revitalize neighborhoods across Southeast Louisiana.

As President of B-Squared Construction, Sidney has delivered multimillion-dollar projects, from early childhood centers and fire stations to veterans’ housing and post-disaster home repairs, with a reputation for integrity, transparency, and results.

His commitment to service extends beyond construction. He served as Board Chair of Benjamin E. Mays Preparatory School, supporting students and families in the 9th Ward, and is a Leadership Fellow of the Justice Revius Ortique Leadership Institute. He is also active in community organizations, including the Bunch Club and the Coterie Social Aid & Pleasure Club.

Barthelemy is scheduled to be sworn in by the Louisiana Secretary of State on March 23.
