The Broadening Participation Research Training Certificate Fellowship Program is a transformative initiative aimed at bridging the gap between STEM research and underrepresented groups. The program will convene:

    • STEM and social science doctoral students as mentors

    • STEM undergraduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as mentees

Through this fellowship, participants will engage in critical broadening participation research, receive expert mentorship, and benefit from a comprehensive suite of professional development opportunities. The program is designed to expand participants' social and academic networks, equipping them with the skills and connections needed to excel in their academic and professional careers.

Dr. Neely’s initiative exemplifies the commitment of Morehouse College and the broader HBCU community to fostering diversity and inclusion in STEM fields. The program not only strengthens the pipeline of underrepresented students entering STEM careers but also provides a framework for research that examines and addresses barriers to participation.

Dr. Neely remarked, “This funding allows us to create a dynamic, collaborative learning environment where doctoral and undergraduate students work together to produce meaningful research while gaining invaluable mentorship and professional skills. It’s about ensuring that HBCUs remain at the forefront of advancing diversity and excellence in STEM.”

The National Science Foundation’s investment in the Broadening Participation Research Training Certificate Fellowship Program highlights the importance of HBCUs in leading efforts to address systemic inequities in STEM education and research. This funding underscores Morehouse College’s role as a hub for innovative programs that empower students and faculty alike.

The Morehouse community congratulates Dr. Adrian N. Neely on this remarkable achievement and looks forward to the lasting impact of the Broadening Participation Research Training Certificate Fellowship Program.
