March 18, 2025Written by: Morehouse College
Dr. Tiffany Bussey, Executive Director of the Morehouse Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center (MIEC), recently represented Morehouse College at the Tanzanian Economic Development Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This dynamic gathering brought together global leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to explore Tanzania’s vast trade and investment opportunities.
Tanzania, one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, is projected to reach a GDP of $85 billion by 2026. With its strategic access to East African markets, abundant natural resources, and a rapidly expanding middle class, Tanzania offers unparalleled potential for international businesses, educational institutions, and investors.
Dr. Bussey had the opportunity to engage with Hon. Amb. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Elsie S. Kanza, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United States and Mexico. These discussions emphasized Morehouse College’s commitment to fostering global partnerships that drive economic empowerment and education.
As part of the trade and investment roundtables, Dr. Bussey participated in discussions focusing on agriculture, mining, tourism, and technology—sectors that present significant opportunities for U.S. businesses and investors looking to enter the Tanzanian market.
During the summit, Dr. Bussey visited the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) Business School, where she met with the Dean and faculty to explore potential collaborations. She also explored the groundbreaking work happening at dLab Tanzania, an innovation hub focused on data science, technology, and entrepreneurship.
With $6.7 billion in annual U.S.-Tanzania trade, the potential for higher education institutions and small businesses to establish mutually beneficial partnerships is immense. Through the Morehouse Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, Dr. Bussey is committed to turning these global conversations into actionable initiatives that drive economic growth and innovation.
