Elijah Gabriel ’28 is a freshman economics major from Marietta, Georgia, who brings a unique blend of passions to Morehouse College, aiming to delve deeper into the worlds of private equity and film production. Elijah’s academic and extracurricular pursuits reflect a commitment to both finance and creativity, making him a dynamic addition to the Morehouse community.
In high school, Elijah’s interest in finance was evident through his active monitoring of the stock market and real estate trends, and his involvement in the Financial Economics Club. His fascination with economics deepened during his senior year, particularly after taking a macroeconomics course and visiting the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C. These experiences solidified his desire to explore private equity, inspired by the story of Reginald Lewis in “Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?” Elijah plans to continue pursuing his financial interests by joining the Morehouse Business Association, where he hopes to expand his knowledge and network with like-minded peers.
Elijah’s creative side shines through his passion for filmmaking, which he channels through his Instagram page, “Scotty Skates.” On this platform, Elijah, using his middle name “Scott,” interviews skateboarders about the mental health benefits of skating, while also using the page as a creative outlet to produce videos and express his artistic vision. His love for storytelling and filmmaking is driven by a constant flow of ideas and scripts that he meticulously documents, envisioning each shot and scene with precision. At Morehouse, Elijah looks forward to joining the Morehouse Filmmakers Association, where he can further hone his craft and collaborate with others who share his enthusiasm for the art of film.
Elijah’s decision to attend Morehouse was deeply influenced by the sense of brotherhood and intellectual nurturing he experienced during his visit to the campus. The legacy of great Morehouse men, such as Benjamin E. Mays, Howard Thurman, and Martin Luther King Jr., resonated with him, as did the college’s commitment to developing young black men in all aspects—socially, spiritually, and emotionally. Unlike other colleges, Morehouse made Elijah feel special and connected, offering a community where he could thrive and build lasting relationships.
Elijah draws inspiration from his father and grandfather, two men whose strength, intelligence, and work ethic have profoundly shaped his values. His grandfather, a 90-year-old Marine veteran from Thibodaux, Louisiana, built his own house with his hands and imparted wisdom through his unique blend of humor and insight. His father, born in New Orleans, carries forward the family’s legacy of hard work and relentless pursuit of growth, always planning the next step for their family’s success. These two men, who exemplify resilience, faith, and leadership, are Elijah’s heroes and the guiding forces behind his ambitions.
At Morehouse, Elijah is eager to continue his journey of intellectual and creative growth, contributing to the rich legacy of the college while forging his own path in finance and film.
Welcome to The House Elijah!
