Atlanta Student Movement Spring Symposium Series Presents “a Trek to the River’s Edge” Film Screening

    March 10, 2022

The Morehouse College Division of Humanities’ Atlanta Student Movement Spring Symposium Series presents a film screening of “a Trek to the River’s Edge” on Tuesday, March 15 at 6:30 pm at the campus’ Ray Charles Performing Arts Center. This screening is in partnership with the Morehouse College Human Rights Film Festival (MCHRFF) and is sponsored by the Rich Foundation.

“a Trek to the River’s Edge” is a documentary film about the Atlanta Student Movement of the 1960s. This film outlines how through leadership, strategy, planning, and action, the students garnered the support of the larger community while striving to overcome the oppression of segregation in contemporary America. Hear the firsthand accounts of the struggles and triumphs from the Atlanta University Center student leaders who organized, strategized, sat-in, marched, and went to jail again and again in the fight to achieve full citizenship, justice, and equality for African Americans. Watch the trailer here.

Immediately following the free screening is a panel discussion about the film and its events moderated by Althea Brown, the documentary’s producer and director.  The panelists include:

    • Ms. Lydia Tucker Arnold, Member, Committee On Appeal for Human Rights, Clark College ‘61
    • Mr. Charles Black, Founding Member and Chair, Committee On Appeal for Human Rights, Morehouse College ‘62
    • Ms. Marilyn Pryce Hoytt, Foot Solider, Atlanta Student Movement, Spelman College ‘63
