Morehouse College has risen 13 places to rank No. 83 among Liberal Arts Colleges nationwide, according to the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges & Universities rankings. The College was ranked No. 4 among historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), maintaining its position as one of the premier HBCUs in the nation. Morehouse College graduated 578 students in the Class of 2026, its largest class in history and of the more than 7,100 applications the College received for Fall 2026, the average GPA of admitted students reached 3.8, a sign of the academic talent Morehouse continues to attract.
Morehouse was recently ranked No. 2 by LinkedIn as a Top 10 HBCU for preparing its
graduates for long-term career success as well as No. 3 among private HBCUs in Forbes’ inaugural 2026 rankings of America’s Top HBCUs.
Additional national ratings for Morehouse College among National Liberal Arts Colleges are:
• No. 1 HBCU nationally for Undergraduate Teaching; #31 nationally (up 12 places from 2026).
• No. 1 HBCU nationally for First-Year Experiences; #36 nationally.
• No. 1 Best Value HBCU that men can attend.
• No. 1 Top Private College in Georgia that men can attend.
• No. 2 HBCU Undergraduate Business Program (up 26 places from 2026 national ranking).
The rankings cap a year of momentum under President F. DuBois Bowman '92, who in his first year of service has centered on the theme "Building Principled Leaders: Steadfast, Honest, True," with an emphasis on sending “well-prepared” leaders into the world. Among those leaders from this past year was Aniaba N'guessan '26, an economics, mathematics, and computer science triple major from Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa, who became Morehouse's 6th Rhodes Scholar, the most of any HBCU.
For academic year 2026-2027 to date, Morehouse has invested more than $36.4 million in financial support for students through major scholarships and awards from MacKenzie Scott (Chicago Community Foundation), the Arthur Blank Family Foundation, the Oprah Winfrey Scholars Program, the Michael Lomax Student Success Scholars, UNCF Scholars, the Penny & Roe Stamps Leadership
Scholars, and the Bonner Scholarship for Community Service, and many more.
The College also advanced its standing as a national leader in AI education, hosting its inaugural Presidential Hackathon and M.O.R.A.L. AI Conference, and forging new research partnerships with the National Science Foundation, Stanford, Purdue, and Emerald Cloud Lab. In Athletics, Morehouse won 4 SIAC championships and the SIAC Men's Commissioner's Cup. And with its first new construction since 2010, Morehouse broke ground on a new residence hall opening this fall and has initiated a joint housing project with Spelman College, part of a broader Campus of the Future initiative that also includes a new campus center.
