Morehouse Engages Students, Alumni, and Leadership with Magic Johnson and SodexoMagic

    January 12, 2026

Morehouse College’s presence in Los Angeles was a powerful affirmation of what leadership, partnership, and shared purpose can accomplish when aligned around a common mission. Hosted in partnership with SodexoMagic, the gathering brought together alumni, students, campus leaders, and national partners to engage deeply with the future of the College and the vision guiding its next chapter.

At the center of the evening was Earvin Magic Johnson, whose longstanding commitment to service-driven leadership was on full display. Hosting the fundraiser at BMO Stadium, Johnson rallied leaders from across Los Angeles and beyond to support Morehouse College and President F. DuBois Bowman ’92 as he continues to advance the institution’s mission. Johnson’s words to students and guests emphasized the importance of partnerships rooted not in transaction, but in shared values, service, and long-term impact.

The evening featured reflections from distinguished alumni and supporters, including Samuel L. Jackson and Tony Calloway, who spoke about the formative role Morehouse played in shaping their lives and leadership. Their remarks reinforced a central theme of the night: Morehouse does not simply educate students; it develops men committed to lifting communities and expanding opportunity.

Equally compelling were the voices of current Morehouse students, whose stories of scholarship, service, and ambition offered a vivid picture of the College’s present and future impact. From academic excellence to global distinction, including the achievements of a Rhodes Scholar, students reminded those in attendance why investment in Morehouse is an investment in the next generation of principled leaders.

Earlier in the visit, Johnson met with members of the Morehouse College Student Government Association, President Bowman, and senior College leadership to discuss leadership, accountability, and influence extending beyond the classroom. This dialogue aimed to prepare students to lead with integrity, vision, and a strong sense of responsibility to others.

Discussions with alumni, faculty, and staff emphasized Morehouse’s strategic priorities under President Bowman’s leadership, including the enhancement of academic excellence, the expansion of student success initiatives, and the extension of the College’s influence locally, nationally, and globally. Faculty and staff identified collaboration and innovation as essential for sustaining growth while maintaining alignment with Morehouse’s mission.
