The lecture will feature Dr. Worth K. Hayes, Avalon Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences and Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies at Morehouse College. Dr. Hayes will present a talk titled Education for Self-Determination: New Concept Development Center and the Golden Age of Black Private Education, a topic that explores the history and impact of Black-led educational institutions and their role in shaping intellectual and cultural autonomy.

The Endowed Chair Lecture Series continues to serve as an important platform for advancing academic inquiry while highlighting the work of distinguished scholars within the Morehouse community. This installment reflects that tradition, offering an opportunity to engage with ideas that connect historical context to contemporary conversations about education, agency, and institutional development.

The event is open to the entire Morehouse community, including students, faculty, and staff, as well as alumni and friends of the College. A reception will follow the presentation, providing an additional space for attendees to connect and continue the conversation sparked by the lecture.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP in advance. The Spring Endowed Chair Lecture Series remains a valued moment on the academic calendar, and this year’s presentation promises to contribute meaningfully to ongoing discussions about the legacy and future of education for self-determination.
