Kara Fenner, Executive Director of the Morehouse College Human Rights Film Festival (MCHRFF), has added a powerful new title to her growing list of creative accomplishments: published author. Her latest children’s book, Afro Puffs Everywhere, is a beautifully illustrated, rhyming celebration of self-love, joy, and the radiant power of little Black girls—just as they are.
What began as a deeply personal creative endeavor has blossomed into a vibrant affirmation of identity and self-worth, crafted with warmth and purpose. Fenner’s inspiration was rooted in her love for storytelling and her desire to see young Black girls reflected with pride and positivity on the page.
“It started as a passion project—something I kept close,” Fenner shares. “But after receiving such kind and affirming feedback from friends and family, I felt moved to share it more widely. Now, I hope Afro Puffs Everywhere brings smiles and sparks confidence in classrooms, homes, and hearts.”
The book is now available on Amazon and is quickly making its way into the hands of educators, parents, and community leaders who recognize the importance of representation in early childhood literature.
Fenner is widely respected for her leadership at Morehouse, where she curates one of the country’s leading college-based film festivals centering human rights, activism, and global storytelling. Her transition into children’s literature is a natural extension of her lifelong commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and using art to empower and inspire.
