Letter from the president & athletic Director: Leadership changes in athletics

    November 6, 2023

    Dear Morehouse College Community -

Today, we are sharing that after careful consideration and extensive evaluation, we have decided to release head football coach Gerard Wilcher from his role within the Morehouse College Athletic Department.

We want to express our gratitude for the dedication and commitment Coach Wilcher has demonstrated during his tenure with the Morehouse football program. He has made significant contributions to our scholar-athletes' development, both on and off the field, and has played a vital role in the growth of and enthusiasm for our athletic department.

This decision is not a reflection of the commitment and effort exemplified while with the College but rather a strategic step in our ongoing journey to enhance the Morehouse College athletic experience for our students, alumni, and supporters. We will begin the search for new leadership in the football program immediately as we are committed to upholding the values and traditions of Morehouse while also positioning our athletic department for continued growth and success.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Office of the President or the Athletics Department.

    Sincerely,

    David A. Thomas, Ph.D.
    President, Morehouse College

    Harold Ellis '92
    Athletic Director, Morehouse College
