Morehouse Moot Court Team Secures Historic Finish in National Competition
March 10, 2025Written by: Morehouse College
Morehouse College continues to solidify its legacy of excellence, this time in the courtroom. Seniors Timothy Daxton Pettus ’25 and Caleb Cole ’25 led the Morehouse Moot Court team to an outstanding third-place finish at the American Moot Court Association National Competition — a remarkable achievement that places them among the nation's elite.
Competing against 560 teams from top institutions across the country, Morehouse's teams not only secured third but also fourth place, positioning themselves in the top 1% of teams nationwide. Their success is a testament to the dedication, intellect, and perseverance of our students, who continue to raise the bar for what is possible.
This achievement would not have been possible without the mentorship of Judge Winfield Murray, whose guidance has been instrumental in shaping the team’s success. Under his leadership, students have engaged in the most crucial aspects of legal education — honing persuasive advocacy skills and learning to apply complex legal principles to real-world scenarios.
Moot Court is more than just a competition; it's a transformative experience that equips students with the analytical and rhetorical skills necessary for future success in law and beyond. Through rigorous practice, case analysis, and simulated appellate arguments, Pettus, Cole, and their teammates have demonstrated not only their legal expertise but also the unwavering spirit of Morehouse.
The Morehouse Moot Court team’s achievement is a reflection of the College’s commitment to cultivating leaders who will shape the future of justice and equity. Their historic finish serves as inspiration for current and future students, showing that with determination, mentorship, and the support of the Morehouse community, anything is possible.
Congratulations to Timothy Daxton Pettus, Caleb Cole, Judge Winfield Murray, and the entire Moot Court team — your hard work and dedication continue to make Morehouse proud. Here’s to breaking more barriers and setting new precedents in the years to come!
