Dr. SherRhonda Gibbs, Dean of Morehouse College's Business and Economics Division, has been selected as the 24th President of Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Dr. Gibbs’s appointment marks a historic first as she becomes the first woman to lead Texas College since its founding in 1894. Dr. Gibbs will officially assume her role in Fall 2026, a selection that recognizes her excellence and signals a bold new chapter for the institution. Since joining Morehouse in 2022, she has guided the Business and Economics Division through a period of transition and growth, bringing renewed momentum and a clear vision for academic excellence and student success.

Under her leadership, the B&E division strengthened academic programs, improved student outcomes, and expanded experiential learning. She also led AACSB accreditation efforts, ensuring the division met the highest standards in business education.
Dr. Gibbs was instrumental in rebuilding faculty capacity and fostering a culture of innovation in research and teaching. During her tenure, she contributed to efforts that helped raise more than $30 million in support of student-facing programs across real estate, entrepreneurship, asset management, finance, and professional development, positioning the division for sustained growth and national prominence.
Dr. Gibbs earned a Ph.D. in business administration with a focus on entrepreneurship from Jackson State University. She also holds an MBA from Winona State University, a master’s certificate in technology transfer and commercialization from California State University - San Bernardino, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Grambling State University.
Prior to Morehouse, Dr. Gibbs served as Dean of the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado. Her earlier roles include Associate Dean of Accreditation and Analytics and Director of the School of Management at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she also held the Alvin Williams Endowed Chair of Minority Entrepreneurship.
Her academic career is complemented by significant industry experience, including roles as a software engineer at the Mayo Clinic and IBM. In each position, she has demonstrated innovation, leadership, and impact. Dr. Gibbs has also led initiatives supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs and students, such as launching student pitch competitions, founding the Women of Color Entrepreneurs Conference, and securing funding for the first Minority Business Enterprise Center in Mississippi.
Her leadership philosophy is rooted in transformational servant leadership, emphasizing integrity, collaboration, and a strong commitment to expanding opportunity and economic mobility. Dr. Gibbs’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Texas College, a private, historically Black college affiliated with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Her leadership closely aligns with the institution’s mission of faith, academic excellence, and community impact.
“The selection of Dr. SherRhonda Gibbs represents a defining moment for Texas College,” said Bishop Lawrence Reddick III, Chairman of the Board. “Her visionary leadership, commitment to student success, and record of transformative impact position her to lead this institution into a bold and prosperous future. We are proud to welcome her as our next President.”
Morehouse College extends its deepest gratitude for her service and leadership. Please join us in congratulating President-elect Gibbs and wishing her continued success as she embarks on this historic next chapter.
